ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, West Siang conducted multi-disciplinary training cum field visit for doubling farmers income

Carrying forward the dream Mission of our  Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to double the income of Indian farmers by 2022 a step ahead, a daylong training cum field  visit was conducted by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Siang at Soi village on 15th September,2018. Around 24 nos. of participants including farmers and officials attended the programme. Inaugural session underwent with introduction of the participants followed by a key note addressed by Dr. Chitrangad Singh  Raghav, Senior Scientist-cum-Head of Krisi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Joint Director, in-Charge, Arunachal Pradesh Centre of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya. Dr. Raghav, advised the participants to adopt Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in the Integrated Farming System Mode in consultation with different Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of the KVK for significantly increasing the farm income and socio-economic status. He informed the participants that the team of experts of KVK is always ready to solve the problems of farmers and they should keep in touch with the experts. The technical session continued with demonstrative and interactive lectures on fruit fly management in cucurbit crops by Dr. K.S. Singh (SMS, Plant Protection) followed by techniques of soil sampling and importance of soil testing by Ms. W. Rekhung (Prog. Assistant, Soil Science), Integrated farming system model developed with reference to livestock by Dr. M.S. Baruah, ACTO (Animal Science) and Importance of protected cultivation for off season vegetables by Mr. Debashis Datta (SMS, Agril. Extension). In the afternoon session, all the experts visited the farmers fields and solved various farming related problems. At the end of the programme, a small oral knowledge gaining and retaining test was conducted where Dr. Raghav asking various questions from the farmers, the response of the farmers was satisfactory. Feedback from the farmers was also collected to assess the quality of training. The farmers expressed their gratitude to the expert team of KVK.
